RV refrigerators are made to be efficient but along the way, there are things that the owner does that makes it less efficient. There are certain things that you can do so it can perform at its optimum level.

A refrigerator takes 4 to 6 hours before it cools down. So when you are planning on a trip then turn on the refrigerator a day before you leave and before putting any food in it. The food that will be placed on the RV refrigerator must already be cold and must be frozen when placed in the freezer. This will take the refrigerator a little less time to cool the foods. Do not also overload the refrigerator, there should be enough space so the air can circulate.

To help more in air circulation there are battery operated refrigerator fan that can be bought from hardware stores. Just place the fan in the refrigerator compartment and this will lessen the cool time by 50%. This will force the warm air out from the refrigerator and cool air will dominate the space.

Another factor that affects the performance of your RV refrigerator is the weather. When the weather is cold then turn down the temperature setting of the refrigerator. Cold weather helps cool down the refrigerator easily. If the weather is too hot make sure the RV is parked in an area where the refrigerator part is covered under a shade.

Check all the parts of the refrigerator. Make sure that the its door closes and seals properly, you can do this by placing a piece of paper in the door. The paper must not drop, this ensures that the refrigerator is sealed tight. Check also the back of the refrigerator, make sure to clean out dust, dirt and other things that can affect its efficiency.

Like any other beds, RV beds must also be taken care of properly so that bugs and any destructive things must be removed. By using a futon cover, it will seal off your mattress perfectly. So in case you eat in bed, any spillage or food particles will not get into the mattress, you can just easily wipe it off.

Also, put the beddings or blankets aside when you are not using them to keep it off from dusts and animal hair in case you have pet/s inside the RV. Futon covers are inexpensive but can do a lot to keep your RV beds in great shape.

RV Awning Care Tips

RV awning are a great help in protecting different parts of your motorhome. It is either placed on the window or on the door. A slide out awning is also used to protect the slide out roof from water and debris. It can also be used in the patio to provide shade when you want to stay outdoors.

RV awnings are made out of either acrylic or vinyl. Some has a wrap-around weather guard that is either made out of vinyl or aluminum which protects it when traveling. If the awning has been kept for a long time in storage then you must check it for any stains or mildew. To clean it just use soft brush and mild soap and clean both sides of the awning. Usually, vinyl awnings has mildew. If the stain or mildew is hard to remove then look for commercial stain removers for awnings and follow the instructions carefully.

Another thing to check before going out and using the awning is to check for tears or signs of wear. After cleaning the awning make sure to let both sides dry properly. Also check the awning hardware, make sure that the screws are intact and tightly placed.

The awning rail must also be positioned securely on the side of the RV. When using RV awning during rainy season, make sure to let one end lower than the other so water will not accumulate at the center of the awning which can cause damage.

If there are repairs that needs to be done then have it done immediately before using it or storing it. It is not really that hard to take care of RV awning. Simply washing it and storing it in a dry place and checking for any damages will help you keep your RV awning for a very long time.
